Sometimes The CC Just Writes Itself

I think that it should say “evacuating”…

Subtitling / Closed Captioning obviously isn’t an exact science, but it should be a bit more of a science than this.

This photo of a television screen was taken on channel KABC-TV in Los Angeles. A reporter was explaining to viewers the importance of evacuating their homes. Unfortunately, the deaf and hearing impaired locked their doors and closed their curtains due the horrific crime they thought was taking place outside.

  1. Haha, that is funny! By the way, I like the new header banner.

    Jim

Thanks Jim. I would like a new theme, but I can’t find one that suits me.

I once saw a caption that described the evacuation of civilians as a “low gist tickle night mayor”

    Interesting…. 😕

Kinda makes me, as a female, want to become a firefighter. Or that was one heck of a fire.

    Female firefighters are sexy!

LOL…I guess that would be one of those unexpected hazards that comes with the job of being a firefighter.

Probably so. I think I would leave it to the Hazardous waste guys to clean up though.

  2. OMG!!! ROFL, Your site is putting me in one jolly good mood this morning, now I really can’t stop laughing. I wonder what the guy who wrote that by mistake was thinking about….hmmm, lol.

  3. As true and accurate as all the other MSM news. In all seriousness, news is heavily censored. Censorship is becoming America’s favorite past-time. The US gov’t (and their corporate friends), already detain protesters, ban books like “America Deceived” America Deceived (book) from Amazon and Wikipedia, and fire 21-year tenured, BYU physics professor Steven Jones because he proved explosives, thermite in particular, took down the WTC buildings.
Vote for Dr. Ron Paul (even the ejaculating people) and save this great country.

  4. “This was one hell of a fire bob, it had firefighters coming from everywhere!”

Mmmm fire, mmmmhmm mhmmhmmmhh oh god. fire! mMMMMMM FIRE MMMMM OH OH OH YEAHHHHHH!!!!!

    LMAO!!!!

  5. ejaculate can also mean:

To utter suddenly and passionately; exclaim.

It’s rarely used like this now, but in the past like in the original novel War of the Worlds, this word is used in this sense.

  6. D. Evan,

You ought to explain to the readers that “America Deceived” is really the fiction book. I am kinda curious about the criminal case of BYU Professor Steve Young. I will do some research followed up on this case.

  7. Closed-captioning is transcribed phonetically using a special keyboard, then the phonetics are turned into words in a second step. In the case of a live broadcast, the second step is done by a computer with no proofreading, so stuff like this happens once in a while.

  8. omg…..funniest thing ever. mustve been a freudian slip…..hmmm…..ill reflect on that one. hopefully for those who actually were EVACUATED….find it amusing in retrospect. love the banner by the way. ill have to read up on that BYU research, sounds pretty interesting!

  9. It’s a simple mistake. You guys all act like you could do better. You think you could provide text 100% accurate as fast as a reporter firing off the news? Yeah right. If you had any insight at all into how this stuff is done you’d understand the mistake and realize it’s an easy mistake to make. It just happens to be in an embarrassing context for the writer. Ease up on the captioner a little bit.
