How much does an oath mean to you?

Posted by Bucky in Other

oath.jpgIf someone borrows $10. from someone and says, “Before God I swear to you that I will repay you.” How many people do you think will be bound by that?

Promises, vows, oaths, etc. and those made without invoking any deity. “I vow to you you I will….”

To me that locks one into fulfilling that, but I see so many people who feel it’s just a bunch of words.

What do you think? That person to whom the promise/oath/vow/swear an oath to…. whatever……was made. Do you think that person was just a sucker to believe it?

Or do you think the one who gave that oath is bound by it?

When I was much younger, I think I believed in oaths, vows etc. Then life moved on giving me experience, quite often hard, which led me to the fact that now I don’t believe in oaths at all.

Life is so dynamic that too many times it surprises you with twists, so you have to be prepared for changes. Also people change thus changing your attitude towards them. Needless to say, you can’t be 100% sure that you know them well enough to give any vow or believe them when they give one.

This consideration leads to the conclusion that being mature, one shouldn’t give any oaths or swear to God. I think giving vows is rather childish and quite often it is nothing more than a manipulation.

Some may say that I live unhappy life with this kind of attitude. I would answer, no it’s not that I’m unhappy because of my lack of faith in humans. I actually believe in people when they say “I can do this for you” or “I’ll try my best” but not when someone says “I swear to god or whatever…” or ” I will never” or “I will always”…

How To Make Your Computer Commit Suicide

Posted by Bucky in technobabble

PaulStovell.NET *After some playing around, I have concluded that this apparently works on any NT based machine (this includes XP…you have been warned)*

Windows Vista can be completely killed by pressing a simple combination of just two keys. All you need to crush Microsoft’s latest operating system and put the much-applauded wow at an end is two fingers.

This issue has been reported independently of Microsoft, and the Redmond company has failed to issue any official comment at the time of this article. The immediate question which comes to mind is if the problem is a security vulnerability or a simple bug.

Either way, you too can watch Windows Vista die in front of your eyes. To make matters worse, the key combination is one of the most utilized keyboard shortcuts in Windows. Pressing the Windows key together with “E” will start Computer in Windows Vista. Keeping the two keys pressed will open a large volume of Computer windows. Want to crush Windows Vista? Nothing could be simpler. Just keep the two keys pressed for more than 20 – 30 seconds.

The operating system will begin to behave aberrantly and will continue to open Computer instances flooding the desktop. There is no way to restore Vista to its normal self, outside of a reboot. With Computer windows cascading on your desktop, you will soon find that Task Manager cannot be accessed. The same is valid for additional processes. You will have to restart the operating system in order to restore Vista.

In its present form, the bug seems to create nothing more than a Denial of Service condition. It remains to be seen if it can be exploited remotely or if it permits code execution. Still, I’d put my money on a bug, rather than on a security vulnerability.

*After some playing around, I have concluded that this apparently works on any NT based machine (this includes XP…you have been warned)*

On a brighter note, a person could have a lot fun with this trick in a Circuit City or Best Buy to all of the computers in sight.

Drew Carey Is Replacing Bob Barker As The Price Is Right Host

Posted by Bucky in Celebs

drewcarey.jpgIt is official.  Drew Carey will be replacing Bob Barker as the host for The Price Is Right. Yes, you heard me right, I said Drew Carey. It was confirmed when he made the announcement on Letterman Monday night.

I liked the Drew Carey show, and I really liked Who’s Line Is It Anyway”. I have to wonder though, does Drew have what it takes to host The Price is Right? Bob Barker has some pretty big (huge) shoes to fill. Bob Barker has only been doing this for 35-40 years ya know.

Another thing to think about is that Drew will be hosting another game show this fall called The Power of 10. I’m sure you can host that show Drew, no problem at all. But hosting The Price is Right is going to be your main focus, and The Power of 10 is only going to get in your way.

Good luck Drew, I have watched most of your previous work, and I will continue to catch you when I can. Be sure to get Ryan Stiles and Colin Mockery on the stage every chance you get!   :)
